Three bays curve one after another along this stretch of the Black Sea coast, each a different shade of green depending on the depth of the water and the angle of the sun. Rocky mountains wall the little town off from everything beyond it, so completely that Novyi Svet feels less discovered than stumbled upon. The name means "New World" in Russian, and the first time you round the last bend on the road from Sudak and see the harbor open below you, the name makes a kind of sense. This is not a place you pass through on the way somewhere else. The road ends here, in a pocket of coastline the mountains agreed to keep hidden.
