The highest summit, Mount Bentley, climbs to 548 metres, holding rainforest, eucalypt and hoop pine on rich volcanic soil. It is genuinely beautiful, and that beauty is part of the story's weight. Because for a century, this loveliest of islands was also a place people were sent against their will, and the two truths have to be held together to understand it at all.]]></description>
